Russia produced 275,200 metric tonnes of refined sugar to Sept. 6 from beet harvested this year, more than double the 125,700 tonnes produced by the same date last year, according to Dow Jones.

Soyuzrossakhar said this year's refining campaign began earlier this year because hot weather made beet ripen faster.

There were 25 Russian sugar refineries processing the newly harvested beet, compared with 35 a year ago, and they received to date 2.491 million tonnes of beet, compared with 1.506 million tonnes a year ago, and processed to date 2.267 million tonnes of beet compared with 1.096 million tonnes on the same date in 2009.
