In a bid to drive global competitiveness, Thai sugar industry will be restructured, according to Agra-Net.
Speaking at the "Bangkok Sugar Dinner" on 11 June, His Excellency, the Minister of Industry MR. Pongsvas Svasti announced several policy measures to facilitate the drive.
The restructuring of the industry is particularly timely as it aims to take advantage of the ASEAN free trade zone under the ASEAN Economic Community that will be fully implemented in 2015. According to a recent Rabobank Report, structural sugar deficit in the Far East is a key investment driver. Over the last 5 years, sugar self-sufficiency has been 87% on average.
