Russia imported only 414,900 metric tonnes of raw sugar in the first six months of 2012, down sharply from 2.257 million in the same period last year, according to Agra-Net.
The sharp drop reflects the surge in domestic beet sugar output to a record 5.0 million tonnes in 2011/12 from 2.7 million the previous year.
