Louisiana sugar cane production is expected to break records this season, according to Louisiana's Morgan City Daily Review.
"The recent hot weather has spurred many Louisiana crops to new heights," said Nathan Crisp, director of the Louisiana Field Office of the United States Department of Agriculture's Statistics Service. "Growing conditions have been beneficial for Louisiana's field crops, and rainfall has been more plentiful across the state recently, improving crop conditions."
The state's sugar cane crop is expected to reach 13 million short tons, up 15% from 2011. Acreage is up 10,000 from last year, with a yield forecast of 31 net tons per acre, up 3.4 net tons from last year.
