Sugar mills in the province of Ciego de Ávila are redoubling their efforts in the final stretch of the harvest and have already produced 181,000 tonnes despite the drought, according to Cuba's ACN news agency.
The objective is to surpass the 193,000 tonnes of raws reached in the previous harvest, with the maintenance of the Primero de Enero plants, Ciro Redondo and Ecuador, after the Enrique Varona González of the town of Chambas concluded its campaign.
Miguel Lima Villar, a specialist from the sugar company in the province, told ACN Friday that they are still harvesting sugar cane in the Camagüey municipalities of Vertientes, Florida and Esmeralda and bringing them to Ciego de Avila.
