Australia is likely to produce 4.5 million metric tonnes of sugar this crop year, which started on July 1, slightly higher than last year's output of 4.4 million tonnes thanks to better weather conditions, according to Dow Jones.
"So far, the country has produced 30% of its total estimated output for 2010/11," Warren Males, advisor with the Australian Sugar Milling Council, told reporters on the sidelines of an industry event.
He said the country is likely to export 3.4 million tonnes of raw and white sugar during 2010/11, up from 3.3 million tonnes last year.
