RUSSIA: 2010 beet sugar production at 221,000 tonnes to Sept. 1

Russia produced 221,000 metric tonnes of refined sugar from beet harvested this year to Sept. 1, compared with 48,200 tonnes on the same date last year, according to Dow Jones.
Soyuzrossakhar said the refining campaign this year began earlier than last year because hot weather speeded the ripening of beet.
Russian sugar refineries processed to date 1.812 million tonnes of beet, compared with 406,500 tonnes on the same date in 2009.
