India's sugar production is likely to exceed the most recent government forecast by about 1 million metric tonnes for the 2009/10 marketing year, which will help bridge a local shortfall, according to Dow Jones.
The country's sugar output in this marketing year ending September may touch 17 million tonnes compared with the initial projection of 16 million tonnes on improved cane yield in the key states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat, said a senior food ministry official who didn't want to be identified.
