ETHIOPIA: Karuturi Agro to build 7,000 TCD mill

Karuturi Agro Products, a subsidiary of Karuturi Overseas Limited, is planning a major cane sugar production project in Ethiopia's Gambella Regional state with joint venture partners, according to the International Sugar Journal.
The proposed factory, with an estimated capacity of 7,000 metric tonnes of cane a day, will be supplied cane from some 15,000 hectares of Karuturi land in Gambella. Seed cane has already been produced on 80 ha for planting out. Cane will be irrigated and partially mechanised to support local employment. Farm plus factory is expected to generate some 5,000 jobs, of which some will be seasonal.
