Maharashtra’s Sugar Conundrum

As if floods and cane shortage weren’t bad enough, now farmers are insisting on higher cane prices with violence against cane trucks becoming more common.

Amid deepening political crisis in the Indian state of Maharashtra with no end in sight for now, another crisis is looming large for the state’s troubled sugar milling sector.
