Diverting more sugar to ethanol sounds like a quick solution to the ongoing oversupply challenge, but it’s not as easy as raising the price for millers.

The Indian government has hiked the price of ethanol processed directly from sugarcane juice by INR3.34 a litre to INR62.65 a litre for the supply year starting from December 2020. Ethanol made from B-heavy molasses will fetch a price of INR57.61 a litre while that from C-heavy molasses will get INR45.69 a litre. The move
