Despite steady domestic production, China’s surge in raw sugar imports this year reflects favourable global prices and the ongoing ban on Thai sugar syrup and premix powder. However, higher imports have softened domestic prices, likely causing the month-on-month decline in imports observed in September and possibly continuing in October.
