An increase in the minimum sale price of sugar will widen the gap between domestic and global prices, making exports less attractive for millers despite the weakening of Indian rupee which incentivises it.

Supported by better crop yields and recoveries in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, India’s sugar output rose to 15.89 million tonnes as of January 15, up 21.7% from 13.06 million tonnes processed during the same period last season, according to National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories.
