Sugar Production Grows Slowly due to Construction Delays and Drought, Ethiopia – 18/05/2016

All of USDA’s sugar reports in one place: a mix of monthly Sugar and Sweeteners Outlooks, import/export data and international GAIN reports. Using data collected by US Foreign Service officers working in more than 130 countries the USDA’S Global Agriculture Information Network (GAIN) reports provide timely information on the agricultural economy, products and issues in foreign countries that are likely to have an impact on United States agricultural production and trade.

<p>MY15/16 production, while up year-over-year, was lower than expected because of the drought and factory construction delays. &nbsp;Sugar consumption, which is growing at a fast clip, continues to outstrip sugar supplies, making imports necessary. &nbsp;Imports are projected to grow year-over year, reaching 350,000 metric tons in MY16/17. ...</p>
