25th April 2008

All of USDA’s sugar reports in one place: a mix of monthly Sugar and Sweeteners Outlooks, import/export data and international GAIN reports. Using data collected by US Foreign Service officers working in more than 130 countries the USDA’S Global Agriculture Information Network (GAIN) reports provide timely information on the agricultural economy, products and issues in foreign countries that are likely to have an impact on United States agricultural production and trade.

Cane sugar production is forecast at 1.15MT in CY2009. Sugar consumption is estimated at 1.1 MM in CY 2008. Sugar imports in CY2008 are expected to fall 30 percent due to increased domestic production. Ethanol production is attracting local and foreign investors into the Peruvian market
