USDA Sugar Reports

22 Feb 2010 | Low Sugar Prices Could Reduce Output and Increase Imports | Sugar, Agricultural Situation | Caracas | Venezuela

2nd March 2010

All of USDA’s sugar reports in one place: a mix of monthly Sugar and Sweeteners Outlooks, import/export data and international GAIN reports. Using data collected by US Foreign Service officers working in more than 130 countries the USDA’S Global Agriculture Information Network (GAIN) reports provide timely information on the agricultural economy, products and issues in foreign countries that are likely to have an impact on United States agricultural production and trade.

Imports are expected to increase up to about 700,000 tons, but higher international prices, as compared to internal controlled prices, plus difficulties in contracting shipping for imports, could make obtaining product more difficult over time. As lower production is expected to continue, imports for 2010 could go even higher in the future.
