The heat wave sweeping across Europe — already affecting beet fields in many regions — combined with poor monsoon performance in India, has sparked unexpected gains in NY over the past couple of days. Above-normal rainfall in CS Brazil, which has been interrupting crushing operations, has also contributed to the upside, although the large volume of cane still standing in the field may be one of the reasons why NY raw sugar prices could struggle to extend gains in the short term — unless wet weather persists, putting time efficiency at risk for the remainder of the crushing campaign.
