SUA PRESS RELEASE: CAFTA REPRESENTS PROGRESS, BUT MISSED OPPORTUNITY ON SUGAR TRADE

Washington, D.C. - Today's conclusion of negotiations on the U.S.-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) with Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras represents both progress and a missed opportunity. It represents progress, because sugar was included in the agreement and U.S. negotiators stood firm in their resistance to protectionist demands that sugar and other commodities
