China’s largest beet area is seeing strong competition from alternative crops like corn and soy while imports are likely to be lower this year.

China has been gradually returning from the Lunar New Year holidays. Total production at the end of January, (Chinese New Year was February 1), was 5.3216 million metric tonnes of which cane sugar accounted for 4.4781 million tonnes, and beet 843,500 tonnes.
