Price falls lead to calls for further political interventions into the European sugar market, including the establishment of a public purchase scheme and import restrictions.

EU sugar stocks are “too high” – for now ... EU sugar stocks at the end of November 2025 stood at approximately 9.93 million tonnes (beet sugar producers: 9.53 mt; cane sugar refineries: 0.41 mt). This is 1.07 million tonnes above the level at the same point in marketing year 2024/25. EU27 November sugar ending
