Zimbabwe: Sugar Annual

By USDA

12th May 2023

Post forecasts Zimbabwe’s sugar cane production will increase by 1 percent to 3.5 million metric tons (MT) in marketing year (MY) 2023/24 based on a return to normal weather conditions, the availability of sufficient irrigation water, and an increase in planted area.

Post forecasts sugar production will increase by 3 percent to 410,000 MT in MY 2023/24, based on an increase in the quantity of sugar delivered to mills, improved sugar cane quality (sucrose content), and consistent milling efficiencies (sugar recovery rate). Zimbabwe is expected to fully utilize its allocation of 12,910 MT for the U.S. sugar
