Increased monthly sales quota and a de facto ban on exports will prevent mills from benefiting from tighter supplies and high prices.

On the one hand, the Indian government has been helping the country’s sugar industry by hiking ethanol prices and lowering GST in a heavily regulated macroeconomic and business environment. On the other hand, it is depriving them to take benefits of tighter supplies, and in turn higher prices, both in domestic as well as overseas
